Intervention Strategies
International
and national specialists agreed that the use of a single type of intervention
will likely be insufficient to solve the problem of anemia and iron deficiency
within a single population because different groups have differing iron needs.
Stronger consensus is needed on how to appropriately integrate intervention
strategies that promote dietary change, initiate food fortification, broaden
use of supplementation, and control infections contributing to anemia. Recent
international meetings recognize that better program planning that considers
all of the major interventions and develops a phased approach to their intervention
is important.
